Salinas Valley Health Replaces Sterile Walls with Student Art

For students like Dayanara Silva, whose piece titled "93905" pays tribute to her farmworker upbringing, the display offers a rare opportunity to ground the medical facility in the local culture. The project serves as a departure from traditional hospital aesthetics, aiming to provide comfort to patients and a sense of pride to staff members who endured the strain of the pandemic.

Beyond the aesthetic shift, the hospital’s Foundation provided grants to the participating schools, establishing the works as a permanent public collection. The initiative is already signaling room for growth, as large sections of the facility remain open for future installations.
