The partnership with Sunday Salmon, a nonprofit restaurant founded by Mary Grothe, marks a significant shift in local food security. Rising operational costs had previously forced the program to halve its frequency to bi-weekly deliveries, leaving vulnerable seniors, families, and individuals with disabilities without consistent support. The injection of capital now restores the weekly cadence and expands the reach of the service.
Under the new agreement, the program will distribute 210 organic, allergy-friendly meals each week, an increase from the previous 180. This surge in capacity has allowed 30 individuals to transition off the waiting list, which has been reduced from 80 to 50 applicants. HDF Founder and CEO Abdirahman Kariye stated that the move aligns with the organization’s mandate to address basic human needs locally, mirroring the scale of their international operations that served over 3.5 million people in 2025.
