Matthew Klein Joins Zum to Scale AI-Driven Student Transit Platform

Matthew Klein has been named Vice President of Software Sales at Redwood City-based Zum, a move signaling an aggressive national push for the company’s AI-powered student transportation platform, Zum CMX. He joins the firm as it looks to replace fragmented legacy systems in major school districts across the country.

Matthew Klein Joins Zum to Scale AI-Driven Student Transit Platform

Klein arrives at Zum following an eight-year tenure at Coursera, where he managed the company’s government business focused on public sector workforce reskilling. His appointment comes as Zum attempts to solidify its footprint in school districts ranging from Los Angeles Unified to Boston Public Schools. The company currently supports over 6,500 schools across 19 states, positioning its CMX platform as a unified hub for routing, dispatch, and family communication.

CEO Ritu Narayan emphasized that the platform was engineered specifically for the complexities of student transit rather than being retrofitted from existing logistics software. For his part, Klein noted that the focus on student mobility as a prerequisite for educational access drew him to the role. By integrating real-time data into a single interface, Zum aims to provide districts with the visibility and accountability often missing from traditional in-house transportation operations.
