Petfinder marks 30 years with rescue flights and meal donations

To mark three decades of connecting animals with owners, Petfinder is launching a campaign to fund six million pet meals and transport over 100 shelter animals to new homes. Between August 17 and November 16, 2026, user engagement on the platform will trigger donations through a partnership with Greater Good Charities.

The "Runway to Forever" initiative focuses on relocating pets from overcrowded, high-intake facilities to regions with higher adoption rates. The project relies on direct user participation: favoriting a profile or creating an adopter account generates one meal for a shelter pet, while submitting an adoption inquiry funds a full day of food.

Since its founding in 1996, Petfinder has facilitated 40 million adoptions across 12,000 partner organizations. Kristen Beckerle, brand director for Petfinder, stated that the anniversary is an opportunity to prioritize the welfare of animals still waiting for placement. Jeremy Colborn, director of transport for Greater Good Charities, noted that the flights are intended to reduce the burden on local shelters while increasing visibility for harder-to-place animals. The campaign aims to blend digital outreach with physical logistics, turning standard platform interactions into resources for vulnerable pets nationwide.
