Cochin Shipyard taps MacGregor for CMA CGM’s LNG-powered fleet

The scope of the contract, booked into MacGregor's second-quarter results for 2026, covers the design and fabrication of hatch covers, cell guides, deck stanchions, and container fittings. These vessels, slated for delivery between 2029 and 2031, are engineered for LNG propulsion with provisions for future low-carbon fuels, supporting CMA CGM’s target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Vijai Hari P, AGM of Business Development at Cochin Shipyard, described the project as a milestone for the 'Make in India' initiative, highlighting the integration of global technology into domestic shipbuilding. The agreement was facilitated by VARYA Tech Private Limited, MacGregor’s long-term agent in India, which managed the technical coordination between the shipyard and the equipment provider. Magnus Sjöberg, Executive Vice President at MacGregor, noted that the integrated cargo system is intended to maximize operational efficiency as the maritime industry pivots toward sustainable fuel solutions.
