Conrad Industries Reports Earnings Dip Amid Growing Backlog

Conrad Industries posted a net income of $3.3 million for the second quarter of 2026, a decline from the $5.8 million reported during the same period last year. Despite the earnings contraction, the Morgan City-based shipbuilder saw its backlog surge to $292.8 million by the end of June.

Conrad Industries Reports Earnings Dip Amid Growing Backlog

The company’s six-month performance mirrors this trend, with net income falling to $6.5 million compared to $9.7 million in the first half of 2025. Diluted earnings per share dropped to $1.29 from $1.93 over the same six-month interval. CEO Cecil A. Hernandez attributed the lower figures to reduced production volume, while emphasizing that the firm’s project execution and balance sheet strength remain resilient.

Growth in the company's order book remains a key indicator of future activity, with the backlog increasing by $196.4 million during the first half of the year. This momentum has continued into the current quarter, with an additional $37.4 million in contracts secured since June 30. Notably, this includes a deal with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build a deck barge for the Vicksburg District. Hernandez noted that the firm is navigating a landscape of supply volatility and labor constraints by prioritizing disciplined bidding and workforce development, aiming to leverage its five Gulf Coast shipyards to capture further government and commercial infrastructure opportunities.
