The foundation is allocating $2.3 million over the next three years to the Smithsonian Science Education Center. This funding will support the new Smithsonian STEAM Schools of Distinction program, which provides educators with professional development, AI-focused learning guides, and virtual training across 40 communities. The initiative intends to prepare the next generation for high-demand careers in science and technology.

Simultaneously, the remaining funds will support Points of Light’s Mobilizing Millions campaign. This effort seeks to increase national volunteer participation, with a specific internal goal for Caterpillar employees to complete 250,000 volunteer hours by April 2027. Asha Varghese, president of the Caterpillar Foundation, stated that these programs aim to foster a more resilient nation by connecting historical milestones with future-oriented educational and civic opportunities.
