Fairfax Carhaulers Secure National Union Contract

Ten drivers at General Motors’ Fairfax Assembly plant have officially joined Teamsters Local 41, securing coverage under the National Master Automobile Transporters Agreement. The move follows a protracted struggle to reclaim industry-standard wages and job protections after the facility shifted its logistics operations to a nonunion carrier.

Fairfax Carhaulers Secure National Union Contract

The transition to Cassens Transport on June 8, 2026, marks the end of a long-standing dispute over labor standards at the Kansas facility. Previously, GM had outsourced carhaul operations to Hansen Adkins, stripping workers of the benefits associated with the national agreement. Through more than a dozen bargaining sessions, the Fairfax team maintained their demand for parity with the rest of the carhaul industry.

Avral Thompson, Director of the Teamsters Carhaul Division, credited the victory to the persistence of the drivers and the support of union leadership, including Joe Monslow and Mark Malicoat. For driver Bret Rust, the new contract provides long-awaited stability regarding seniority rights and compensation. The local union views this outcome as a signal to employees at nonunion carriers that collective bargaining remains a viable path to securing improved working conditions.
