With the nation’s 250th anniversary approaching this July, the Duke Energy Foundation has finalized a $550,000 investment in South Carolina. The concluding round of funding, totaling more than $260,000, supports 14 local nonprofits dedicated to preserving regional history and expanding civic education across the Palmetto State.

This final distribution marks the end of the foundation’s America250 initiative, a multi-state effort to localize the celebration of American history. Previous grants earlier this year focused on veteran workforce development and the preservation of communal green spaces. The current recipients, ranging from the International African American Museum to the Sumter Museum, plan to use the funds for immersive exhibits and educational programming that bring regional narratives to life.

Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy South Carolina, stated that the initiative aims to highlight the personal, local nature of history. Representatives from beneficiary organizations, including the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission and the Dillon County Boys and Girls Youth Center, noted that the funding allows for increased accessibility to historical sites and living history experiences. These projects are designed to connect younger generations to the events that shaped the region’s identity and role in the nation's founding.
