Oman and Iran Forge New Coordination Framework for Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi to finalize the framework. Central to these discussions was the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which Oman is now actively supporting to ensure regional stability.

Both nations asserted their sovereign rights over their territorial waters while committing to keep the waterway open for international transit. The newly formed working group will focus on the practicalities of future administration, including the cost of services provided to vessels and the establishment of international safety standards. These efforts will eventually expand to include other littoral states and relevant international stakeholders to ensure a broad consensus on maritime security.
