West Philadelphia Gains Year-Round Soccer Field at Conestoga Park

As Philadelphia prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a new state-of-the-art soccer field has opened at Conestoga Park. The project, funded by the UAE Embassy and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, provides a permanent, free venue for youth sports and local training programs in the West Philadelphia neighborhood.

The facility represents a collaborative effort between international partners and local city agencies to expand recreational infrastructure. UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, joined by CHOP CEO Madeline Bell and Philadelphia Parks Commissioner Susan Slawson, inaugurated the pitch this week. The field will serve as the primary home for the West Philadelphia Soccer Academy, which has operated in the area since 1994, offering local youth a dedicated space to train and compete.

This installation is part of a broader initiative by the UAE Embassy to construct soccer fields in underserved communities across the United States. Similar projects have already been completed in cities including Boston, Chicago, and Miami. For CHOP, the venture extends a long-standing partnership with UAE health entities that focuses on pediatric research and clinical training. City officials view the site as a vital asset for youth engagement, providing a safe environment that encourages physical activity and long-term community development.
