A Los Angeles jury has awarded $52.1 million to a motorcyclist severely injured in a 2021 collision, holding a trucking company accountable for a dangerous left turn on Creekside Road. The verdict includes $45.6 million in initial damages and an additional $6.5 million in punitive damages for the plaintiff.

Jury Awards $52 Million After Santa Clarita Semi-Truck Collision

The incident occurred in April 2021 when the defendant’s semi-truck turned directly into the path of the plaintiff’s motorcycle. Attorneys Khail Parris, R. Rex Parris, and Curtis Crawford of PARRIS Law Firm represented the victim, who sustained life-altering injuries requiring extensive medical intervention. Throughout the litigation, the defense argued that the driver operated as an independent contractor, attempting to shield the trucking company from liability.

Attorneys for the plaintiff successfully countered this strategy, citing bad-faith negotiations from the insurance provider, which initially offered no settlement. Khail Parris noted that the insurer failed to respect both the law and its own policy, ignoring the severity of the victim's physical trauma. The final award, handed down in the Los Angeles Superior Court, provides the resources necessary for the plaintiff to pursue long-term medical care and rehabilitation. Curtis Crawford emphasized that the case could have been resolved years earlier had the defendant acknowledged the gravity of the injuries sustained in the crash.
