MediThinQ and Synovis MCA Partner to Scale Digital Microsurgery

South Korean medtech firm MediThinQ has secured a multi-year exclusive distribution deal with Synovis Micro Companies Alliance, a Baxter International subsidiary, to bring its SHIYA 3D visualization platform to global markets. The move signals a shift from traditional optical microscopes toward data-enabled, heads-up surgical environments.

The SHIYA platform replaces fixed eyepieces with a high-resolution digital exoscope and the proprietary SCOPEYE wearable display. This transition allows surgeons to maintain an upright, ergonomic posture while sharing a 3D visual field with the entire operating team. By digitizing the surgical feed, the system enables real-time data capture and recording, functions that are increasingly vital for training, AI-assisted analytics, and complex reconstructive procedures.

Clinical Adoption and Market Strategy

Clinical validation has already begun, with SHIYA used in over 100 global procedures. Research published in JPRAS Open and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery highlights the system's potential for supermicrosurgery and telemicrosurgery. Prof. Joon-pio Hong, MediThinQ’s Chief Medical Officer, noted that the technology fundamentally changes the interaction between the surgeon and the operative field. Synovis MCA, leveraging three decades of expertise and established hospital networks, will manage the phased international rollout. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between niche technological innovation and widespread clinical application, moving beyond the infrastructure-heavy requirements of conventional optical systems.
