The attraction arrives as the latest expansion of the park's Making More Magic campaign. While the real-world biological display of synchronous fireflies is a fleeting summer occurrence, this installation provides a year-round simulation. Designers utilized state-of-the-art lighting technology to replicate the rippling waves of light that characterize the insects' communication patterns. Visitors traverse elevated canopy pathways where choreographed illumination sequences create the illusion of walking through a forest at twilight.
Founding partner Karen Bentz stated that the project serves as a celebration of the unique natural heritage found within the Smokies. Beyond the lighting display, the broader Treetop Skywalk redesign includes new towers and expanded bridges, extending the park’s reach deeper into the canopy. These additions complement existing infrastructure at the mountaintop destination, such as the Crystal Express gondola system and the AnaVista Tower, reinforcing the park's focus on blending outdoor adventure with immersive, technology-driven storytelling.
