Las Vegas Sands backs mobile cafe program for housing-insecure youth

A $150,000 contribution from Las Vegas Sands is set to power a new mobile workforce initiative run by The LGBTQ+ Center of Las Vegas. The funding targets the expansion of the Espresso Yourself Café, a mobile truck designed to provide job skills and income stability for 20 young adults facing housing insecurity.

The program selects participants aged 18 to 24, offering them paid work experience that aims to serve as a bridge to permanent housing and long-term career paths. By deploying the mobile coffee unit, The Center extends its reach beyond its physical headquarters, meeting young people where they are while providing professional training in a hospitality environment.

John Waldron, CEO of The Center, noted that the partnership creates a vital space for vulnerable youth to gain real-world experience and build personal confidence. This initiative marks the latest chapter in a multi-year collaboration between the two organizations, which previously included a three-year stint in the Sands Cares Accelerator program. Ron Reese, senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs at Sands, stated that the project aligns with the company’s broader focus on economic empowerment and addressing the specific challenges of youth homelessness in the Las Vegas Valley.
