VIAVI Updates CX300 for Streamlined TETRA Radio Validation

Technicians can now verify mission-critical radio performance without triggering specialized test modes. VIAVI Solutions has introduced a software-keyed upgrade for its CX300 field-portable monitor, enabling comprehensive testing of TETRA mobile stations by simulating real-world base station registration and call processing directly in the field.

VIAVI Updates CX300 for Streamlined TETRA Radio Validation

The new TETRA MS option eliminates the traditional requirement to place radios into T1 test mode, a process that often complicates field maintenance. Instead, the CX300 performs transmitter parametric measurements—including RF power, carrier frequency offset, and modulation accuracy—while simultaneously handling call processing and receiver loopback functions. This approach ensures that devices are validated against the same operational parameters they encounter during active service.

TETRA, the open standard maintained by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, remains a cornerstone for emergency services and transport industries due to its localized encryption and direct device-to-device communication capabilities. By integrating this functionality into the existing CX300 hardware, VIAVI aims to simplify the transition for teams currently using legacy equipment like the 3920B platform. According to Wayne Wong, Director of Product Management for Radio Test at VIAVI, the upgrade shifts the testing paradigm toward how radios actually perform in the field rather than how they behave under artificial laboratory constraints.
