The 2023 growing season tested the resilience of the Nipozzano vines. Following a mild winter and a spring defined by persistent rainfall and cooler temperatures, a sudden July heatwave forced the grapes to adapt. This climatic volatility resulted in a wine that balances structural depth with the signature elegance of the Chianti Rufina terroir. Hand-harvested and sorted, the fruit underwent traditional fermentation before spending 18 months maturing in 30-hectoliter Austrian and French oak barrels.
On the palate, the 2023 vintage presents a ruby-red profile defined by notes of arbutus berries, redcurrants, and balsamic undertones. The integration of silky tannins and a persistent finish reflects the meticulous bottle-ageing process following its time in oak. First introduced in 1974, Montesodi continues to function as a specific expression of the estate’s southwestern-facing vineyard, situated 400 meters above sea level. The release serves as the latest chapter for the Frescobaldi family, whose holdings now span nine Tuscan estates alongside international projects like Domaine Roy & Fils.
