The summit features a panel including NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison, NTSB Board Member Thomas Chapman, and Alliance for Automotive Innovation CEO John Bozzella. Moderated by former NHTSA chief Mark R. Rosekind, the event serves as the cornerstone of the foundation’s expanded Drowsy Driving Prevention Program, which leads into the annual awareness week scheduled for early November.
Participants will examine how to bridge the gap between public awareness and behavioral change. While 95% of Americans acknowledge the dangers of operating a vehicle while tired, two-thirds admit to doing so despite struggling to stay alert. Beyond the leadership discussion, the foundation plans to debut fresh research on driver attitudes, aiming to shift the conversation from general awareness toward specific, evidence-based strategies to reduce road fatalities.
